COVID-19 Update

1 February 2022

Dear Member,

The ANSSACC national executive and local organising committees have today announced that registrations for the 2022 Australian Sikh Games will open on 1 February via the anssacc.org website.

This announcement comes after careful consideration of NSW Government COVID-19 guidelines and consultation with venue management and council. The Australian Sikh Games can be held under the current level of restrictions, however, we note that the COVID-19 situation can change rapidly, and we will continually assess government guidelines.

The safety and well-being of the athletes and spectators in our community is our highest priority. Therefore, several protocols and recommendations will be in place for all attendees during the Games. Specific protocols for certain sports may also be in place. Full details of these requirements will be provided in due course by the Sports Coordinators.

General guidelines for attendance at the Games are outlined below.

Vaccinations

We strongly recommend that all attendees are fully vaccinated and preferably have received their booster shots where applicable.

Rapid Antigen Tests

We encourage all attendees to take a Rapid Antigen Test immediately prior to attending the Games. If you return a positive result, please DO NOT ATTEND the games, inform your close contacts, and follow the applicable self-isolation rules.

Symptoms

DO NOT TRAVEL to the Games if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or if you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the 7 days prior to the Games. Further information on symptoms is available here: www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/testing/symptoms.

Protocols will be in place during the Games for athletes who have symptoms or return a positive Rapid Antigen Test result during the Games. Full details of these protocols will be provided in due course. We encourage all teams and athletes to adopt a common sense approach during the Games by taking precautions to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19 within their squad.

Face Masks

Rules for the wearing of face masks at the Games will be based on NSW Government guidelines in place at the time. Current guidelines require face masks to be worn in certain settings such as indoor areas of premises other than a place of residence. NSW Police can issue on-the-spot fines for failing to follow face mask directions.

We also encourage attendees to wear face masks in outdoor areas at the Games. More information on NSW face mask rules is available here: www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/rules/face-mask-rules.

QR Check In

Check-ins using the Service NSW app will depend on NSW Government requirements in place at the time. Currently, there is no requirement to check-in whilst attending community sport, however check-in is required for retail premises, food and drink premises, places of worship, and certain other settings. More information can be found here: www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/rules.

Cancellation of Event(s)

Teams, athletes and spectators travelling to the Games should be aware that certain matches, certain sports, or the Games in their entirety could be cancelled at short notice if the national and local committees deem there to be a high risk of COVID-19 transmission or if new rules are introduced by venue management, local council or the NSW Government restricting or preventing community sport or large gatherings.

Flexible Travel

We recommend that all attendees who are travelling to the Games make flexible travel arrangements to minimise costs should bookings need to be changed or cancelled in future due to changing COVID-19 circumstances.

Registration Deadline

The closing date for registrations in team and individual sports is 28 February. This is a strict deadline and late registrations will not be accepted. Registrations can be submitted here: https://anssacc.org/coffs-2022/sports-registration.

We note that most of the fees paid by clubs for the 2020 Australian Sikh Games in Perth have been refunded. However, some clubs have not provided account details for the refund. Please contact us if you have not received a refund for 2020.

Membership Renewal

Clubs will be required to renew their annual membership via the website. Please provide up to date contact details for the Office Bearers of your club including President, Secretary and Treasurer, to ensure that member communications and updates are addressed to the correct people. Membership renewal and payment can be completed here: https://anssacc.org/about/update-club-info.

Clubs that renewed their membership in 2021 will be refunded the membership subject to approval at this year’s Annual General Meeting to waive the fees for 2021.

In closing, we appreciate the patience of all Members as we have worked through safety and logistical challenges. Further updates will be provided if the situation changes.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Coffs Harbour and wish all a safe and healthy preparation for the Games.
