What is the Cultural Program at the Australian Sikh Games?
The Australian Sikh Games cultural program runs alongside the sporting competitions and is designed to celebrate Sikh heritage, creativity, and community life. It gives performers the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity in front of tens of thousands of attendees from across Australia and overseas during this iconic Easter weekend event.
The Australian Sikh Games in Melbourne 2026 are set to be the biggest celebration of sport, culture, and community in the Southern Hemisphere — and we want you to be part of it!
Activities will include:
- Traditional & modern dance
- Live music and singing
- Martial arts & Gatka
- Poetry & spoken word
- Drama & cultural storytelling
- Folk and regional performances
- Youth & community groups
- Fusion / contemporary performances
Daily Cultural Activities – 3/4/5 April 2026, 10am to 5pm
Throughout the day, the Games precinct typically features cultural displays and activities such as Bhangra and Giddha dance performances, Punjabi folk music, Gatka (traditional Sikh martial art) demonstrations, turban-tying and dastaar education stalls, Punjabi language and history exhibits, arts and crafts, and community information displays from Sikh organisations. These daytime activities form part of our “Punjabi Sath”, which means a gathering or fellowship, creating a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere that allows spectators and participants to engage with Sikh culture beyond sport.
Cultural Night – Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April 2026, 7pm to 11pm
In the evening, the Cultural Night is a highlight of the Games and showcases formal performances by local, interstate, and sometimes international artists. The program usually includes choreographed Bhangra and Giddha teams, Punjabi folk and contemporary music, and youth and children’s performances. All our cultural performers are as dedicated as our athletes in their months-long preparation for this occasion. Cultural Night serves as both a celebration and a unifying event, bringing together performers, families, elders, and guests to honour Sikh identity, talent, and community spirit in a festive, inclusive setting.
